Monday Confessional

I really like this time of year. Apart from the global warming induced mid September highs, the end of summer start of fall is my favorite time of the year. If you live in a place that doesn’t have four separate seasons, I highly suggest you visit a place that does this time of the year. I can’t recommend northwest Ohio for many things, but this time of year it is absolutely stunning. You know that song, with the amber waves of grain, until you see a field of wheat ripe and ready to pick blowing in a gentle wind you wont really know what that song is about.

It has been weeks since I filled my car up with gas. The Honda hasn’t suddenly gotten very efficient (although it is not a bad car), it is just that I haven’t used it in a very long time. I have been riding my bike to and from work, to the store, to the library, and basically everywhere for the last month and a half. My legs haven’t looked this good in years. Boston is not a bad place to ride your bike, but it is not the most bike friendly place in the world. There is a charity bike ride coming up and I am seriously thinking about doing it. It is a 54 mile ride, and will cost me about 300 bucks, but it is for a good cause, and will be a heck of a ride.

A strange thing is starting to happen. Around 4:50 every day at work I start thinking only about the ride home. I am actually day dreaming about ridding my bike, yes I know it’s a sickness. I have seen the same sort of think with runners, who just have to get their morning run. I wonder if this sort of thing will continue through the winter with the negative temps, the snow and the ice. I plan on riding every day I can this winter, even if that means getting a mountain bike and studded tires. I figure the money I save on the gas, and on the T, will be more than enough to pay for a beater bike and some nice tires.

Life is taking a strange turn for me in Boston, I am not sure where I will end up.
