Good Afternoon!

The AmeriCorps Cape Cod program is recruiting a member for its Disaster Initiative. AmeriCorps Cape Cod is a full-time residential service program focusing on natural resource management, disaster preparedness and response, community education, and volunteer engagement. Check out our website, www.rdo.org/americorps, for general information about the program.

The position we have available is with our Disaster Initiative. We are looking for a Corps member who is interested in serving primarily with the Cape Cod and the Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross. This member will be fully integrated into the rest of our program and will have an opportunity to participate in some natural resource management and environmental education projects as well. The primary focus for this position will be disaster preparedness planning, volunteer engagement, and disaster education.

The benefits we have to offer for this position are listed below.

Due to the late start for this member, the position will be designated as part-time. However, this member will be serving in a full-time capacity and will receive full-time benefits. The part-time designation allows the member to successfully complete their term of service after 900 hours of service instead of the full-time 1700.

The term of service will be January 5, 2009 – July 25, 2009. The start date is somewhat negotiable.

Housing – Our program is residential. We run two program residences – one in Wellfleet and one in Bourne. The open bed for this position is in BOURNE.

Living Stipend – You will receive a living stipend of $259.37 (before taxes) every two weeks. This is the same amount received by our other Corps members.

Health Insurance – You must have health insurance coverage. If you need coverage AmeriCorps can provide it.

Travel allowance – You will receive roughly $100 every month to help cover the cost of fuel. Please note, we do ask members to bring a personal vehicle to be used for the duration of the program.

Gear reimbursement – You will receive a gear reimbursement of up to $100 for any personal service gear you buy. This is for purchases made after the start of the position. Reimbursements are not given for purchases made prior to enrolling into the program.

Training – There will be significant training offered. This position is starting several months into our normal Corps year so the training opportunities will be some formal trainings early on as well as “on-the-job” training as the position progresses.

Upon successful completion of the 900 service hours, you will be eligible for an education award of $2,362.50. For more information about the AmeriCorps education award please visit this website: http://www.americorps.org/for_individuals/benefits/benefits_ed_award.asp

On qualifying student loans, you will be eligible for loan forbearance during your term of service.
