Capped Well Might Be Causing Fractures In Sea Floor, Seeping

My biggest fear was that capping the leak might expose damage deeper down the casing, causing oil to seep up uncontrollably all over the place. It seems like these fears might be coming true.

On Sunday, engineers discovered oil seeping deep out of the seafloor “at a distance” from the wellhead and possible “anomalies” at the wellhead.(via)

Pressure in the well was not as high as the government of BP expected, and it might be that some of the oil is working its way out the side of the bore. If this happens it might be impossible to keep the cap on. The last thing anyone wants is to have a million uncontrolled tiny leaks all over the place instead of one large more controllable one.

  1. Today, I learned on Rush Limbaugh’s Show that the Gulf of Mexico has a volume of 650,000,000,000,000,000 gallons and that this oil spill is comparable to filling the Superdome with water and pouring a pint and a half of oil into it. It is way overblown, but it has given Obama the pretext he needed to lay waste to the economy of the Gulf states.

  2. Patrick what exactly is your point? It only takes a drop or two of cobra venom to kill a full grown man, which may have several liters of blood inside of him. It only takes a very small amount of oil to pollute a very large amount of water.

But hey, if you think Rush is right, and that there is no problem why not go down there and take a swim. Maybe you can find your lost continent of Atlantis while you are splashing around in the perfectly clean water.

  3. I have several points: 1) The oil spill wasn’t the great disaster it’s been made out to be. 2) Obama’s policies are a far greater disaster. and as a bonus I’ll throw in a third point, 3) Oil is bio-degradable; what’s feeding the microbes today will be feeding the fish next week and man next year.
P.S. I changed up my thesis, for your and other’s amusement.
