Democracy! What democracy, Mistah Gore? Do you mean like the democracy that we are bringing to Iraq?
Democracy is just a catch phrase; it is typical American image lacking in substance. When you start waving the flag, it makes me wonder which special interests that you want benefiting from what is badly mislabelled, one might even say Orwellian.
Perhaps, you mean the type of democracy that United Technologies, unhappy with a loss of lucrative government contracts, wants to exercise, i.e., buy Diebold. You remember them, eh?
And, lacking political will, come again? As my father tells the story of the doctor confronting the alcoholic about his lack of will power, “Doctor, replies the alcoholic, if you told me that you hid a bottle in this room, you better believe that I would find it.”
If you are saying that now we should trust with saving life as we know it on our planet to those entrusted with the stewardship of “democracy” in the United States, well, I am sorry, I am unable to share in that sort of optimism.
