Monday Confessional

Bah, how bad was that state of the union. I will tell you, bad. Bush talks in circles, uses so many half truths, half lies, and outright lies. Support coal power, support nuclear power!?! What? Talk about lame duck, maybe just lame. No vision, no legacy, worst president ever. Seriously how did we ever end up with this guy as our president?

In other much better news, I am almost ready to roll out my next little web project, something that has been making me very happy as of late, and something I have been putting a lot of work into. Tomorrow I will be unveiling it, just sort of wetting the whistle now. Here is a hint, its got to do with bicycles.

Speaking of which, cycling has been more and more fun as of late. It seems that I have caught the bike bug pretty badly. I find myself using my car less and less, and not missing it at all. Not to mention the pleasing side effects of having great legs, a trim waste and feeling better than I have in a long time.

When we blunder into peek oil unprepared (thanks in no small part to our clueless leaders) the cycle will rule the road. I for one welcome our new bicycle overlords. You might as well get yourself one now, and start riding it all over the place, that way you will be ready for the switch over. Just planting seeds.

Here is a little “mini-poll” if you are an adult (over the age of 18) when was the last time you rode a bicycle?

  1. I use my bike A LOT during the summer. Granted its not for riding to work or anything. I will ride down the street to drop some stuff off in the mail, or take in the water bill, misc stuff to be honest. I would say though that probably at least 90% of all the riding I did was just because. I have to agree that it is excellent exercise and my legs felt great. I have been swimming all winter to replace my bike riding since its pretty hard to ride your bike here in Michigan over the winter. So I think once it warms back up I will switch over to a alternating routine of riding my bike and swimming.

  2. I ride my bike all the time when it isn’t snowy out and right now in Michigan it’s winter but you never know for sure with the wacky weather here. I go to Michigan State and find that riding a bike is one of the best ways to get around, the campus in the past year has become much more bicycle friendly by adding bike lanes to many of the streets(more to come this summer). I only stop riding my bike when it gets cold enough to snow, then I switch over to the Lansing area buses that also run a great campus system. Another great thing is that I ride onto campus on a gm hybrid bus when im not on a bike, you can definitely tell the difference between a normal bus and the hybrid ones. So anyways the last time I rode my bike any distance would have been in late November, but I can’t wait to get back to it.

  3. Ages ago. I walk almost everywhere, any further and I use the bus or train. Far too dangerous to cycle round here – I would be dead in a matter of weeks.

  4. Shamefully, the last time I biked was early this past summer of 2007! :(

I badly badly srained my ankle at the end of July playing outdoor paintball and couldn’t do much physical activity, then house building kinda took over my life after that!

Next year I am hoping to actually commute my 20+km one way trip to work some days though!
