I was shocked and saddened to learn that Molly Ivins had passed away yesterday at the age of 62 from a long battle with cancer. I had long enjoyed her caustic wit, and her ability to cut to the heart of the situation using humor. She never suffered fools lightly and had the glorious habit of calling our idiot president Shrub. During my time in Austin I would look forward to her regular columns and found it refreshing to hear such a liberal voice coming from what is often not a very liberal state.
She was so important, during a time when many had forgotten what it meant to be a journalist, namely that you investigate and report, Ms. Ivin’s told it just as it was. She never held her punches, and she will be very much missed. Rest in Peace Molly may your influence, wisdom and wit last on for many many more years.
