Eco-friendly gadgets are a huge growth area at the moment. Granted, there are many products being designed that are just a marketing ploy. However, there are some genuinely interesting and useful eco gadgets too.
The NatureMill Indoor composter is an ideal gadget for any green warrior without a garden. The indoor composter allows you to recycle your waste food easily and quickly without a garden and without a specialised food waste collection service. The composter is capable of breaking down around 120 lbs (55kg) of food waste every month. That’s a quite a bit being saved from landfill.
The composter adds moisture, then heats and mixes the waste. This physical processing encourages rapid breakdown of the food matter. Once the food waste has broken down, you can then retrieve the compost from the bottom container of the composter.
If you live in an flat (or apartment as you call them in the US), then the NatureMill Indoor composter is a perfect way to reduce your landfill waste without a garden. The composter is small enough to fit in a kitchen cupboard, or could be stored in your garage if you have one. You can use the newly created soil to top-up your indoor plants with some natural fertilizer. You could also give the compost away to friends and family if you don’t have any pot plants.
The heat kills nasty bacteria and destroys the majority of smells. If you do smell anything from the composter, the worst you’d smell would be damp straw or mushrooms. The carbon filter inside the composter helps with the odours and only needs replacing every 5 years. Although the composter is always switched on, it only uses 5kWh a month, which costs very little in real money. Just pence really.
And here’s the best bit about the composter. Due to the way the waste is mixed and aerated, the decomposing material releases no methane into the atmosphere. This means you can do your bit to help reduce greenhouse gasses too!

I have seen one of these before at a friends house. She is very happy with it and it seems to work extremely fast. Just as advertised. I have already purchased mine and am waiting eagerly for it to arrive.
We have had one of these machines for almost a year. It is excellent. It takes a little getting used to and you have to be sure everyone in the family understands not to put any wrappers or twisties in it. Otherwise it will jam. But we have had a great experience with it and the compost is amazing.
I love my Naturemill! Couldn’t live without it. If you can afford it, get the premium version which is more powerful and more solidly built.
Love my NatureMill. It breaks down food so quickly… You have to use the pellets, that is important…
Here is our experience with our naturemill: we have had it for about six months and have made roughly ten trays of compost. Each tray is about two gallons which covers one or two square yards of our garden. We spread it out on the garden as soon as it comes out of the naturemill, and only on the soil surface as they recommend. We have almost covered the entire garden at least once and soon we will start reapplying a second layer. The compost that comes out of the naturemill machine is very good compost. Already the plants are looking much fuller than in past years. We sift the compost but really it is so granular when it comes out of the machine that you don’t even need to sift it.
We initially had some problems when we first started up our naturemill. The first batch takes some time to establish the compost micro organisms, which are similar to yogurt or beer, and smells like sourdough break. We called customer service and they were very helpful and they advised us to stay away from fibery things like corn husks and paper. The fibers do not decompost and just take up space and cause jams. Also they told us that it is important to add the pellets which are included. They gave us some free pallets too which last 6 months.
Overall we have been pleased with our Naturemill. It is a good product and if they could just get the price down then I would buy a second naturemill for our office.
I just saw Naturemill at costco. This is definitely a hot product. I am rooting for these guys because it is such a great machine and I think that some day every home in America will have a naturemill.
NatureMIll is really a great product. It actually works. Not that I was worried, but you know it sounds too good to be true. Really I am still amazed. We have no more garbage any more. And hardly any trips outside except when we want to go outside to have fun in our garden (not to deal with a stinky compost crock). Strongly recommend the Naturemill. My only concern is that they have come down in price and if I had waited a bit I could have saved some money. Oh well.
The naturemill works as advertised. There is no smell and a little noise like a refrigerator. All of the other reviews that I read before I purchased it said the same thing, so my experience is similar to the other reviews. I enjoy the naturemill and anyone who wants good compost will like it too.

By the looks of these comments I just might need to hurry and get this indoor Composting system. Thanks for sharing everyone!
It’s a very good composter. I have had it running for about one year. It makes a batch of compost every 2 to 3 weeks. It was a little noisy when it was new but has since quieted down. It is quieter than my refrigerator. The naturemill can compost just about all of our food waste except for coffee filters because it does not do paper. It has no odor. I read reviews of other composters before I bought this and the Naturemill product had better review than all the others that make compost. I also give it a positive review because it is very reliable and works very well.
The Naturemill works well. I have had it for about a year and I have told all of my friends to buy one. I do not have the new and improved model which they call the xe edition. It is supposedly better but mine has been good enough for me. I read every review before I bought and each review says to follow the instructions supplied by Naturemill. Otherwise it can jam or emit odors. I think if you follow the advice of the other reviews then you will have no problems with naturemill.
