There was a time before sonar, before every part of the earth was google mapped, before we knew what lurked in the depths of rivers, a time of gods and demons. Human beings used to fear and respect the giant creatures that lived in the depths of our fresh water rivers and lakes. Luck for us these creatures still roam the planet, and are every bit as interesting now as they were then.
We have talked about large freshwater fish here before. Below are a collection of other amazing and giant freshwater fish.
The giant freshwater stingray (more)
Alligator Gar (these used to live in Ohio!! where I grew up as a boy)
There are many humongous fish out there and they are all interesting and worth saving.
I am very comforted by the fact that these giants still roam this planet, and think we should do everything in our power to preserve and study these amazing, and freaking redonkulous sized fish.
Habitat loss and over fishing are the main causes of the die off of these giants.
Wow! That’s a lot of record breaking fishes. I really do appreciate those pics Does anyone know how every anglers got those big catch? Thanks in advance. god bless.
Love the wicked big fish pics! I actually was browsing a pretty neat fish store in Framingham this weekend: Tropic Isle Aquarium. Found out that maybe some of my own fish may slowly be on their way to becoming mac daddies some day :)

Wow, I live in Dubai, and I have seen the biggest fish in the world, the Whale Shark. But it is a LOT different to see the proportion difference of fidh to person. I mean, to see a fish in the water, and however big it may seem, it will seem a whole lot larger once youve seen it in comparison to a person. Wow.
Thanks for the pics mate (:
i just need a fish to study for my ecology class thats it!!!!!!!!!!!
the people who are giving you guys message are dumb. (I heard that someone called you sexy).
Interesting, I was blown away with the sting ray. That fish is huge! Its astonishing to know that such creatures exist.
i wish u didnt kill them and u take them back to the fresh water.. its very rare..so we must protect it

None of those pics were altered. Those are the real thing.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is welcome to come fishing with me.
The alligator gar is becomming endangered, because they are
easily caught, and are very tasty. They are also loaded with toxic chemicals, thanks to industrial waste. Best to let them swim free.
The giant catfish are also real, and they didn’t get big by being stupid. They are only taken using very heavy equipment. They too are loaded with toxic chemicals, thanks to industrial waste. Best to let them swim free.
I have caught a lot of monster fish; some over 1000 pounds, and I know if I go in the water, hungry fish can eat me.
But that is their world. I am a land dweller and don’t think it is right to kill these creatures for ego. They deserve to live.
They are HUGE!!!
Wow!! I love 2 fish, but I’ve NEVER caught something like that!! Those r some fish. I wish I will be able 2 catch 1 of those When I get 2 go fishing soon!! =)

Dude… I caught one of them Alligator Gars last week and I was all like What What… Want Some, Get Some. I pulled out my num chuks and went all Bruce Lee up side his head. Then I drop kicked him across the pier and put him in the Full Nelson, then I sliced him up into bite size pieces and served him with lemon sauce over rice. MMM mm

Okay, well, I’m never again swimming in cloudy water.
Love the pictures, i don’t think I’ll ever set foot in water again. I cant believe a catfish or stingray would grow that big. Congrats on the pictures.
I have seen most of these fish on River Monsters Unhooked By animal planet and most of these fish are from the other side of the world and they are not fake they are the real deal and some of them can pose a risk to people and one day I’m gonig to try to catch some of them myself.
