So todays top stories all have something to do with Texas, and how fucked up it is. It seems Texas has finally executed an innocent man. (that is they can prove it this time) Ruben Cantu was put to death for a crime he didn’t commit. The man who testified against him says he was pressured to do so because the cops convinced him he had to. These cops were friends of another officer that had been wounded in a bar by Cantu. Ah Texas, they put more people to death than many third world dictators.
George Bush’s home state of Texas suffered the rare indignity yesterday of being accused by one of its own most prominent newspapers of putting an innocent man to death.
The Houston Chronicle put together an impressive dossier of sworn statements and retracted testimony  along with doubts expressed by the prosecuting attorney  to suggest that Ruben Cantu of San Antonio should never have been charged with capital murder, much less convicted and executed
Also our good friend Tom Delay is getting his in Austin. Seems he was unable to worm his way out of money laundering charges. But not to worry Dick is still supporting him. Dick was seen at a fundraiser for Delay. What the fuck you would think the stink of this man would drive anyone with a high profile away from him. Guess Dick cant smell it because he reeks of corruption himself.
Hours after the judge’s ruling DeLay hosted Vice President Dick Cheney at a Houston hotel for a $500 a plate fundraiser. But while the congressman still has the backing of the Bush Administration, his support is slipping at home—a new Gallup poll finds that just 36 percent of registered voters in DeLay’s district said they would support him in November’s election—and he faces an uphill climb with his party.
