Where to start, I guess Friday. This weekend was a whirlwind of activity. It started on Friday with a rather intense day of shellfish propagation. Moving big trays of oysters from deep water to shallow, separating, removing oyster drill eggs, etc. Its heavy stinky work, but it helps keep a vital species healthy (and provides a large economic interest in the area). Friday night was the start of the real fun. AmeriCorps Cape Cod Alumni Weekend!!! Can you say holy freaking crock of fun batman. Many of the great people whom I have had the good pleasure of spending the last three years with all in one spot.
There was beach fires, and cookouts and we even organized a large community race called the cut and run (mad props out to the current AmeriCorps Cape Cod year for the great planning). It was everything you could have hoped for in a reunion. Friends, food, laughs, and I scored a some sweet Alumni swag. Check out some pictures taken by my good friend Hawkins.
The Cut and Run on Sunday was a rather brutal (at least for me) trail race. 5k over some rather hilly and rocky trail. I have never done a trail race, and frankly I am not that good of a runner, but this was fun. I came in 25th out of 70+ so pretty average.
Today I spent the morning cleaning up a lot of nasty trash at a conservation property, and the afternoon finishing the yard work at the house. Dirty hot and stinky work. I had to put shorts on at one point , and managed to get myself a pretty awesome dirt tan.
I would like to submit for the record that I am that pale all over, so once I took a shower my tan went down the drain. You can clearly see where my socks where. That’s just how we role in AmeriCorps.
