This is my old buddy Ben, he has been hard at work doing some eel counting. Everyone loves some science so here he is doing his thing.
Eels are catadromous, meaning they spawn at sea and return to freshwater as elvers to grow. Often elvers (baby eels) cannot reach the parent headwater due to obstructing dams and in this case a cranberry drop flume at a reservoir dike. Brad Chase from Mass DMF has developed a concept to get these elvers up a ramp, and Ben is helping figure out how successful it is. Note to cool little solar powered pump.
