Cape Wind Will Have No Effect On Radar Stations (For The Last Time)

So I really don’t understand why the opponents of the Cape Wind farm keep claiming it will interfere with the PAVE PAWS radar station on Cape Cod. We have already covered this here, and here but just to be safe yet another government agency has proclaimed that Cape Wind is radar safe. This coffin has enough nails in it to built a house.

An Air Force review has concluded that a proposed Cape Cod wind farm would have no impact on the nearby PAVE PAWS radar station in Bourne.

PAVE PAWS is one of two radar facilities in the continental U.S. responsible for missile warning and space surveillance.

U.S. Rep. William Delahunt asked for a review of how the 130 turbines proposed by Cape Wind Associates for Nantucket Sound would affect the radar. He said it could impact national security.

The Air Force study found the wind farm would not affect PAVE PAWS after looking at the latitude and longitude of the turbines.

It also looked at their height above sea level and the windmill construction material.

A Cape Wind spokesman said the company was pleased the Air Force had conclusively settled the question.(via)

The reason that the NIMBYS keep bringing this up is because it is easy to get your objection into the papers. Some person from the government saying “umm actually it wont have any impact” doesn’t make as good a story. As such the objection tends to make the front page, and the rebuttal doesn’t. So once and for all the case is closed, Cape Wind will not effect radar, end of story, nuff said, the end, final word.
