A lot of the things you think are “off” are really on. This image does an amazing job of showing just how much it costs to leave these energy vampires on for a year (over 3 BILLION!! dollars nation wide). Unless you power your home with a renewable energy, that also means that coal/oil/gas are being burned to keep these vampires powered up, that means more global warming gas, and a warmer environment.
So what can you do, the easiest way to handle these energy hogs is to plug them into a power strip and then turn that power strip off when you are done with the device. Another way might be to simply unplug them when not in use.
