Thats right people are walking again. If you harken back to the ye olde days people used to actually walk to just about everywhere. Small villages made just about the whole world withing walking or I guess horse distance. You might be surprised with just how many things are still within an easy walk from your home. Instead of doing all the hard work of walking to everything within a 3 mile radius of your home you could use Walk Score to find all the cool stuff within a short walk from you.
Using a handy Google map hack they have done some ‘puter magic to display all the stuff you would be interested in near your home. I had a pretty good score of 65 (out of 100), meaning that I can walk to a lot of things, and it looks like they missed a couple. Personally I use my bicycle to extend the range of “things near me” quite a bit. But if I was stuck walking everywhere it is good to know that I could get to just about everything I need.
Walking to the places near you saves on gas (which is getting very pricey), and it helps the environment, while at the same time getting you a good workout. If you are lucky you might even meet some of your neighbors and make a new friend.
What is your walk score? Do you wish you had a higher one? Would you move to a place that had a better score?
