It actually rained Saturday night. It hasn’t rained here in a month and a half, literally. The heat, and the wind had dried out the whole place, and a light coating of an oppressive dust had settled down on everything. Luckily the rain seems to have driven the heat away, but unfortunately it was not nearly enough water to wash away all that damn dust. The dust now sits in small clumps all over the place attracted to the rain drops and then left after the water vanished.
I have ridden my bike every day for the last ten days, and I can tell you it is wonderful. I haven’t ridden this much and this often in a long time. My legs are already showing the results. I even lost the “computer worker” fat I was growing around my middle. I find myself craving lots of nuts and beans, tofu, vegi-burgers and cheese. With the heat lately I also can’t seem to drink enough water. Hopefully as it moves into fall the weather will bring some cool ride days.
For the most part the cars are being nice, but there are a couple of mean people who think they own the whole road. I guess if they are honking at me, that means they can see me and presumably wont run me over. I don’t think they understand that I can not ride on the sidewalk, and don’t want to ride right up next to parked cars in case they open the door. I try and get over, but I guess their huge SUV just needs more room. I usually just try and get over for them and let them floor it, then laugh inwardly as I pass them in 100 yards when they get stuck in traffic. I wonder why people are in such a hurry to get stuck at the next red light. Ride your bike people, work off some of that bad feeling, it’s fun I promise!
I just wanted to remind everyone that we are still having our “what I did this summer” book giveaway contest, and so far very few people have entered, meaning that at this point, if you enter, you will win (not bad odds huh :) The prizes are great, and you could wind money, real honest to goodness money!
