Early Morning Solar Gadget: Solar Golf Cart

So your just about to round the 7th hole, and BLAMO your golf cart runs out of battery. You wouldn’t be schlepping your golf carts back to the pro-shop right now if you had one of these bad boys. Made by a company called Cruise Car this solar panel kit will affix to the top of most popular electric golf cart models. Allowing for carbon free charging of the batteries. The Sunray Solar Roof Kit will soon be available to dealers, golf courses, resorts or anyone who owns a golf cart.

“Due to the overwhelming response to our Cruise Car solar-electric vehicles, we decided to develop a conversion kit so golf cart owners around the country can solarize their vehicles,” says Ken Chester, President of Cruise Car, adding “Now everyone with an electric cart can participate in the “greening” of America while saving money on energy costs.” These solar panels can generate up to 180 watts, 60 volts and supply 3 amps directly to a 36 or 48 volt battery. As long as the vehicle is in the sun, the battery is constantly recharging itself through the solar panel. Converting a cart to a Sunray top will benefit the end user by increasing the distance the cart can go on a single charge by 30%, reducing electric charging costs, and reducing co2 emissions (that electricity most likely came from coal or gas). I could see this sort of device being extremely useful to large golf courses or communities that have hundreds of electric carts that they are always paying to charge.

  1. I wouldn’t say gas is “better”. Electric golf carts have their advantages over gas. There are allot of places who won’t let you have a gas cart and there are ZERO places that won’t let you use electric golf carts

  2. This past May, Sebonack Golf Club in Southhampton, NY converted 39 of their 40 Golf carts into Solar. Earlier this year, the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course in Hong Kong became the first club in the world to outfit its entire fleet of golf carts with Solar tops. Both claim an annual savings of over $50,000.00 US by going Solar. This is definitely a trend that should be watched. While I am not familiar with Solar Drive, I am a dealer for a unique Peel and Stick Solar Golf Cart System that works on ANY golf cart. Custom Cart, Specialized Cart, EZ-GO, Club Car, Yamaha, etc. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact me.

  3. While Solar for Golf Carts is gaining popularity in the US, it’s also showing a positive response in another part of the world. Solar for Golf Carts is gaining recognition through our distributorship in Turkey. The thoughts that putting Solar on a Golf cart can be beneficial to a golf course has overflowed into the Resort communities as well. Visit our website and click on Blogs to read the full articles.
