So summer is rapidly approaching and you might want to start taking some outdoor showers (while camping, the shower inside it taken, just because), many homes in the north east have an outdoor shower so that you can wash the salt off of you after swimming in the ocean. Well here is a quick and easy way to take that outdoor shower without burning fossil fuels on the hot water.
Called the Solar Fizz, it is a simple solar thermal collector that you hook up to your garden hose and whalla! Hot water.
From the website
Solar fizz , a Swiss made product of highest quality, designed for a long life.
* Set up in 1 Minute
* Simply attach to the water hose
* Detachable shower hose
* 30 Litre heated water can be
mixed with cold water
* Water temperature adjustable
up to +70° Celsius
Set up is easy with the fun graphics they have on the site.
What I found most interesting was they claim that the sunfizz can get water hot enough to kill bacteria and virus living in it.
The Solar fizz is the only portable Garden Shower with a water temperature up to +70° Celsius. Health harmful liginary pneumonia bacteria are killed in such a temperature level
A temp of 76+ C would be more useful to kill a wider range of bacteria and virus, but not bad for just a backyard shower. I am sure this model could be modified to provide solar water sterilization for developing countries.
So now you got your shower, you will need a bathing suit to go with it. Well the ladies at least have a solar option.

This suit is not what I would call, umm, flattering. You also have to wonder how well the solar cells will do after they get wet? Lets hope they are sealed up in something. The suit powers small devices like an Ipod or cell phone. But really its so damn ugly I can’t see anyone buying it.

This model however is a little less scary, but still looks pretty uncomfortable. This one also powers a USB device.
I think that eventually we will see the integration of solar cells into clothing, and its nice to see some early pioneers.
Evelyn seems to be enjoying herself ;-)
ah, nothing like harnessing a little t&a for the cause of the green!
