Monday Confessional

Man am I beat. Its been a really long day. We spent today planting trees and trail grooming as part of a local green belt project. We planted about 60 plants and groomed about 300 feet of trail. This involved laying a million feet of topsoil and mulch as well as installing a bunch of plastic sheet weed stopper. Overall it was a grand time, it did however rain and I am very tired now.

I have been thinking a lot about what is going to happen in this country now that we no longer (or wont once January rolls around) have one party rule. I have tempered myself somewhat in the last couple of months. I no longer think impeachment is the way to go. Instead I feel that what we really need is good old fashion checks and balances. Simple oversight, hearings, tough questions, the basic building blocks of our system of government.

The real problem we have been experiencing in this country is a party that is more worried about keeping power than about doing its job. The congress is supposed to provide oversight to the executive. That means they don’t just rubber stamp everything. The executive is supposed to look at what the congress is doing and every once and a while veto that shit. Each branch of our government is SUPPOSED to be at odds with the other one. We are SUPPOSED to have people fighting and arguing and investigating each other.

Lets hope these things start to happen now that we have two parties in office. What I am most worried about is that the Dems will blow it somehow. All they have to do is be honest (if you have a rat in your own house make sure you get rid of it, no matter if it costs you any seats) open (sunlight is the best disinfectant) and diligant (no more do-nothing sessions). Our country is facing too many really tough challenges (global warming, global oil shortage, political unrest, just to name a few) for our government to be run yes men/women.

I got to see Tess this weekend, if only for a short time, but it was glorious! She is such a nice person. We went to this really pretty park and saw lots of dogs. My life is going pretty well, I have been trying to figure out what I am going to do with myself. I feel like after this year my resume will be in pretty good shape, and I will have to make a choice as to what it is I want to do with my future. Stupid future why do you always lurk out there being all indeterminate and stuff.

  1. Ah, and then there was the thought of more higher education…graduate school….and so the future leaps and bounds away into the distance… :) So, there was rain on the Cape yesterday. I hung out with a friend of mine that was doing construction in Brewster and said it was bone dry all day long! Hollah at the Bourne kids…
