It would seem that some in congress are just “playing” at leadership and really have no idea what is going on. One very special example is Lynn A. Westmoreland.
Since being elected as a Republican representative for the 8th district in Georgia in 2004 Lynn has introduced zero bills. Thats right zero, zip, nada, 0 bills. But thats OK, there are no rules that say you HAVE to introduce bills when you are in congress.
Lets check out his voteing record. He has voted to support the installation of the ten commandments in all public court houses, the kicker being he doesn’t even know all ten, he can’t even name four, and if you are being strict he barely knows the three he can name. Don’t believe me, watch for yourself.

In case you were curious here are the ten (there is some debate as to what the ten are, but this is a pretty good list)
1. You shall not worship any other god but YHWH.
2. You shall not make a graven image.
3. You shall not take the name of YHWH in vain.
4. You shall not break the Sabbath.
5. You shall not dishonor your parents.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not commit perjury.
10. You shall not covet.
The poor man, he doesn’t even have the smarts to realize that he is being made fun of. Its like a deer in the headlights. He is not alone. Many republican and democratic districts send similar “leaders” to Washington year after year. I would imagine that the people of Georgia voted for him because he told them he would protect there guns, keep the gays out of the church, and put god back into the public square. Much in the same way that a Ted Kennedy or a Joe Lieberman tells there constitutes what they want to hear.
When “Mr. Smith goes to Washington” its another story. Out of the public eye they pass all sorts of crap legislation full of pork, get nothing done, and fail to address the important issues in any substantive way. Once in a while they will throw a bone to the “base” to make sure that they will get out and vote for them come election day.
This election cycle we citizens of the Cape And Islands must realize that the people we vote for represent US. If we send a moron to Washington, we are the morons. Lets take a look at our representatives. Do they vote the way we want on issues?
I met William Delahunt at an ACLU talk and had the chance to tell him face to face how unhappy I was with his voting record on things like the wind farm and renewable energy. He seemed like a nice man, polite, intelligent, well dressed. But he won’t get my vote if he doesn’t vote for the wind farm. Its that simple, you vote for the person that shares your views.
Before we go re-electing all these people lets see if what they say, matches what they do. If it doesn’t maybe its time for a change.
