It snowed today. Weird. Good old New England still has a few tricks up her sleeve. After it got done snowing the roofs of all the buildings around where I work had steam rising off of them. It was really interesting and beautiful to watch. Crazy weather.

I also volunteered at a food pantry today, it was so busy that three hours shot by like it was nothing. I spent the whole time moving food from pallets to shelves and from shelves into bags for people.

I live on Cape Cod. One of the richest places in America. And the number of people in need amazed me. Most of these people are the working poor, that is they have jobs and work full time but can not afford to live. Its horrible. Some of them are old and have no one to take care of them and don’t get enough social security to live on, and some are immigrant workers that bust their ass in the hotels and restaurants around here but don’t make enough money for food. I am so glad that places like the Falmouth Service Center are there to help.

If our country would spend a tenth of what we spend blowing people up in Iraq, on poverty reduction, we wouldn’t have this problem. And that is really what makes me sad, no one in power seems to get it. You never see anything new out of them, they never seem to think up any grand ideas. Anyone from either party who comes up with any sort of progressive or interesting ideas has to make so many back room deals, and add so many pork amendments to the bill, that by the time its done no one gets what they want and its all crap.

I am almost tempted to say that we vote the entire lot of them out and replace them all with new people. It would be chaos sure, but only for a couple of years, and we really need new blood. Almost everyone in congress is going to get re-elected this year. Thats just plain madness.

Lets put it this way, if you hired someone to take care of your lawn. And you came home one day to find that this person has written in big huge flaming letters on your grass “fuck you idiot, I only care about myself” would you fire them? Well the people in the government work FOR YOU. You HIRED them with your votes. And they are making the rich richer, the poor poorer, fucking the environment, starting wars that get our sons and daughters killed for no good reason, all the while filling their pockets with money. Think about it.
