Start Planning For What You Are Going To Do Post Trump:
Humans need a vision to move towards, American’s especially. We must do the hard work of collectively envisioning a better post Trump world.
Mine goes a little like this, we pass a constitutional amendment that money does not equal speech. We publicly fun elections, and create independent bodies to draw districts. We use democracy vouchers, or some other sort of system to put the money and thus the power into individual citizens. Each person would have a certain amount of vouchers they could give to all politicians in a year. It would be up to each citizen to spend that voucher money how they felt it would be most usefully used. The vouchers wouldn’t be good for anything else, and the money for them would come from taxes.
No other money would be allowed in politics. NONE. Any other money or favors would be considered bribery and punished as such.
From there we would re-regulate the banks, impose a more sensible tax structure on the rich, and use this massive amount of money to go fund social programs for every citizen. Specifically free college, and universal health care.
We would aggressively fund a movement towards 100% renewable energy, spending trillions to accomplish it as fast as possible, creating millions of new jobs. We would fund this by ending all fossil fuel subsidies, and taxing carbon heavily. This is paramount to the survival of our planet, and can not be ignored because a few companies are making a lot of money.
From there we would make it illegal to sell arms to any other country, or to give them weapons. If they want to go to war they can build and operate their own arms companies. Presidents would be unable to use any military force without a vote from the entire congress, gitmo would be closed.
Once robots take most jobs some sort of Universal basic income would be implemented, or perhaps a communal ownership model where profits are shared to all citizens.
The future can be as bright as we collectively decide to make it. This is just a small slice of a vision of the future where everyone is taken care of, where everyone is well off, were no one is rich, and no one is poor, but everyone thrives. On a planet respected, and cared for, and a society that treats people fair and equitably.
I want to live in that world, and I think most others would as well.
Tools of change:
Feel like this is all a bunch of bullshit? Want to do something about it?
Calling your government representative:
You can also use 5Calls.org if you are having a hard time figuring out what to say.
Tell them in no uncertain terms that you want them to fight to stop Trump from doing these things. Tell them you will be watching them closely on how they vote, and will hold them accountable during the next election if they cave to Trump. You can also call other states congress people and threaten to donate to their opponent if they don’t do what you want.
Phone Bank for Progressive Candidates:
Call the White House:
Call the “White House”:
Use this website to call one of Trump’s many properties he has not put into a blind trust yet, and let them know how you feel (be polite, they are workers just like us, but be firm).
Do a little Slacktivism:
Go to a town hall and talk to your congress person in person:
Monitor your congressperson:
Keep track of how your senator is voting on cabinet picks here, so you can call them up and give them hell if they vote for any of these worthless fuckers.
Also be sure to keep track if you live in a district with an upcoming flip-able seat (flip to the left that is)
