How Do Turbines, Towers, And Tall Buildings Impact Birds?

If you live on Cape Cod this event would be especially good to go to, as there has been a lot of talk lately about wind turbines and birds.

Thursday, September 27, 7 p.m., at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

Free lecture focuses on research monitoring birds and impacts of human structures.

Bill Evans has spent 20 years studying the nocturnal flight calls of migrating birds in North America. He initiated the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology’s avian night flight call research in 1994 and in 1998 founded the nonprofit Old Bird. His presentation will focus on his current work using acoustics for long-term monitoring of various songbird species and for mitigating bird mortality at tall, man-made structures. Bill’s work has been described in The New York Times, New Scientist, NPR, BBC, PBS, Science, and many popular conservation and birding magazines. His organization also provides instructions and tools for anyone interested in establishing their
own night flight call monitoring station.

This talk will be held at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in South Wellfleet. It is free and open to the public. Registration is requested, but not required. For more information or to register contact the sanctuary at 508-349-2615.
