Monday Confessional (On Tuesday)

NEED building

I know I say this a lot but, wow have I been busy. So busy that I am having to write this Monday confessional on Tuesday. Better busy, than have nothing to do I guess. This last week shot past me like a greased pig. I spent the last couple of days out at the national seashore for an AmeriCorps retreat, and it was very nice. Busy but nice. The National Seashore on Cape Cod is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Its an end of the road kind of place. Any place where the road ends is special. A place where human beings realize that all things they have created end “here”. Its also a place where land, ocean, and sky come together.

I have lived near the ocean for almost three years now and yet every time I see or hear the waves breaking onto the shore I am amazed. Perhaps its the primal connection to our slimy past, or the fact that it’s just so damn big, but humans seem to be fascinated with the ocean. I am no exception. I could sit for hours and watch the waves roll in, the sound gently taking your mind to whatever place it wants. It makes me think about the world, and the wonder of it all.

Tess is on spring break from law school. The best result of this fact is that I get to see her more than her books do :) Tess is amazing, and very smart. She is doing very well in law school, mostly because of her never ending hard work. If you, or anyone you know, is thinking about law school let me tell you, just looking at the amount of work Tess has to do makes me tired. I can only imagine how hard it would be to have to actually DO all that work. We also got to visit a new LEED platinum certified building near my house, check out the awesome solar array.

I will write a full post on this soon.

This week I am attending a conference dealing with disaster preparedness and response, and how to integrate the two into AmeriCorps programs. In a nut shell our program has a disaster component(which is why we respond to blizzards) and we are trying to show others how to do the same. It is going well, but again it takes me out of the office so I am getting even further behind. Lucky for me I got really far ahead before last week, so after this week I should break even.

The best part about being so busy is that I sleep well at night. I know that I am getting a lot of good things done for a lot of people. Its good to feel that you are making a difference in the world. Even if that difference is a small one.
