In Iraq we have death squads roaming the streets, a growing civil war, daily bombings, super high oil prices, an ineffective puppet government, massive fraud, wasted efforts, and daily American deaths.

In Afghanistan we have a resurgent Taliban, a returning theocracy, an ineffective and unpopular government, a growing drug trade, and monthly American deaths.

So I ask. All this for what? Why are we killing and dying? Any of the many shifting reasons given have proven to be untrue. The Iraq people are not more free now that Saddam is gone, they are not better off now, they do not have cheap gas prices, they do not have democracy, and they did not have weapons of mass destruction.

We are now stuck in a quagmire that could grind up and spit out dead young men and women for years to come. We have spent billions of dollars that could have been used to feed hungry mouths, educate children, fix roads, or repair New Orleans and the South Coast.

We instead have soldiers being accused of raping and killing children, and massacring unarmed civilians. Our global image has been trashed, and America’s good name ruined. We have warrantless civilian directed spy programs, secret prisons, Americans being sentenced to jail for torture,

All this for what? What were we supposed to gain? What was the point? Why are we still doing all this? When will it end?
